How the heck is a 15 minute workout going to get me that beach body? Is most likely what you’re thinking? Which is true, every single person you see on a magazine or on instagram that has achieved a god like physique does not do 15 minute workouts. Their workouts are more intense and lasts at least 60 minutes long.
Why am I telling you this? I am telling you this because these models that you admire also had to start some where. These people did not just wake up and all of a sudden became consistent with their workouts, no. There was resistance in the beginning.
“Why you should do quick workouts.” Let me tell you the story of “How I got into the best shape of my life in 3 months”.
Growing up I was teased a lot for my body. I loved food and I had fear of missing out on all that delicious goodness so every
chance I get I would eat. This lead to uncontrolled weight gain and I did not know how to fix it. I felt trapped, I thought I was just going to be miserable for the rest of my time on this earth. As time go by and the pain of feeling my belly overlap my pants out weighed the F.O.M.O (Fear of missing out) of food. I decided to take action.
Through my journey I have tried many types of workout programs like P90X and Insanity. I took up boxing, daily running, hours of weight training. Not only that but I also went on all the popular diets. Keto, paleo, intermittent fasting and calorie counting.
Honestly, it was the pain that kept me going and if wasn’t for that I would’ve stopped from the start.
After 5 years of trial and error I felt confident that I have all the skills I need to get into my best shape in 3 months. Which I accomplished. That is the truth. It took 5 years of learning and my result was just a byproduct from the skills I developed. For you, this means you need that same skill set to achieve the results you want.
Trial and errors are inevitable so now I ask you, would you rather go through 60 mins of learning or 15 mins of learning on a daily basis? Which is more sustainable for you?
“How to fit in 15 min workouts when you feel you don't have time.”
The purpose of a short workout is to:
- Learn how your body works.
- Get your heart rate up.
- Energize you through the day.
- Gain confidence to workout more.
When it comes to fitting your workout in your day, you have 2 options. Option 1 : Get it done and over with in the morning. Eat the largest frog is the metaphor I like to use. When you do it even before the sun comes up you gain confidence and momentum through out your day. Your mind is much clearer and stress free. This is why 15 mins is great place to start because anyone can do a body-weight workout at home for 15 mins. (This is the option I would go for) Option 2: Look into your calendar and find a 15 minute block and dedicate that time to working out. Make sure to write it down on your calendar because if it is just floating in your mind chances are that the workout will not happen. If it stays in your head then it is just an idea but when you put it down as a physical commitment then it becomes real.
“The Workout”
There are many ways to design your 15 minute workout. There are many factors to consider and here are some that you can start with: Intensity
You want to keep the difficulty at between 6/10 to 8/10. You are building a relationship with your fitness and you want the impression to be ”wow! that was great and I feel like I can do more”.
Posture
You want to make sure that the exercises you are doing is helping with your posture. If it doesn’t then overtime you will create pain in your body that will last for weeks, maybe more. You want to start with feeling good physically.
Fun
Have fun with it. I know it isn’t a popular thing to say that exercise can be fun but it’s true. If you hate what you’re doing then how are you going to stick to it? Play some music, wear stylish workout clothes or do the workout with your friends.
